William J. Fisk is a Sr. Staff Scientist and Group Leader of the Indoor Environment Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He has conducted research for 30 years at LBNL on indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency. His current research focuses on energy efficient technologies for ventilating and controlling indoor air quality, on the relationships of indoor environmental quality with health and performance, and on the economic consequences of indoor environmental quality. He is an Associate Editor for the journal Indoor Air, was elected to the International Academy of Indoor Air Sciences in 1999, has been active in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers and is a Fellow of that organization. Mr. Fisk received MS and BS degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of New Mexico, respectively. |

| Presentation Summary |
As designers and operators of buildings and HVAC systems, your actions will influence indoor environmental quality (IEQ), occupant health, and productivity. This presentation will review how ventilation rates, thermal conditions, particle filtration, air conditioning, and dampness and mold influence indoor environmental conditions, occupant health, absence rates, and work and school work performance. The costs of providing better IEQ will be contrasted with the economic benefits. You may be surprised by the substantial effects of IEQ on people and the large associated economic implications of IEQ. |
