The Golden Gate chapter will present a seminar on October 8, 2014 titled "Glass in Architecture: Balancing Beauty, Light, Air, Comfort and Energy". The seminar will explore the many benefits of windows including views, daylighting, the potential for natural ventilation and increased economic value (most spaces with windows and views command a higher rent). The seminar will also look at existing and emerging window technologies; how windows and curtain wall systems are tested and rated; how they are addressed by codes and standards; techniques for modeling windows in energy simulation programs; how the design of HVAC systems are influenced by windows; and how to design them to maximize the daylighting benefits. The seminar will be co-sponsored by the Center for the Built Environment (CBE) and the PG&E Pacific Energy Center (PEC).
