Golden Gate ASHRAE - Technical Tour of UCSF Bayfront Medical Building

Ever wondered what kind of infrastructure it takes to support one of the most advanced, fully electrified healthcare facilities in the region? Now’s your chance to explore it up close. Join us on this technical tour led by the project’s design team!

This five-story, 190,000-sf LEED Gold OSHPD-3 clinic features 16 operating rooms, a compounding pharmacy, imaging, and both primary and urgent care clinics — all powered by 100% renewable electricity from SFPUC. The building is entirely electric, operating without cooling towers, boilers, air-cooled chillers/heat pumps, or condensing units.

Key systems and highlights include:

• Water-cooled heat-recovery screw chillers
• Forty-five solar thermal panels serving domestic hot water and heating hot water
• Wastewater heat recovery systems
• Triple-deck 100% outside-air fan-wall AHUs with run-around coils, load-balance coils, and no rooftop ductwork
• Two 2MW diesel emergency generators
• Recipient of the 2025 ENR Award of Merit for Health Care projects in Northern California, Northern Nevada, and Hawaii
