ASHRAE Golden Gate Committee Mixer Event for the 2024-2025 Season
Interested in hearing what the Golden Gate chapter is up to this year? Or looking for a way to give back to the industry. Join us on September 26th at Drake's Dealership in Oakland for a chance to meet your new executive board and learn about the various committee you can get involved in.
We will also have a special guest speaker Carrie Brown (ASHRAE Director-at-Large) will deliver an informative technical presentation on "The Future of Weather Files for Building Performance Simulation and Resilient Design"
Bio: Dr. Carrie Brown is a director at Resource Refocus LLC where she specializes in decarbonization and resiliency from the lens of policy research, program design and evaluation, codes and standards, and other technical consulting. She is active in the ASHRAE and International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA) professional communities, where she an ASHRAE Director-at-Large, ASHRAE Center of Excellence for Building Decarbonization Executive Committee member, Chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 4.2 Climatic Information, and Secretary of ASHRAE Standard 169 Climatic Data for Building Design Standards. She previously served as President of IBPSA-USA, Secretary and At-large Director of IBPSA-World, and Co-chair of the SimBuild 2024 conference. She holds a Ph.D. in Building Technology from MIT, an M.S. in Architecture with a concentration in Building Science from UC Berkeley, and a B.S. in Architecture from MIT.
Abstract: Weather data has a wide range of applications in the built environment. For the past 50 years, building simulation efforts have usually relied on typical meteorological year (TMY) or reference year data, but recently some applications have switched to alternate weather files, such as newly available future typical meteorological year (FTMY) data. This talk will discuss the impact of switching from existing TMY datasets to more recent or future-looking datasets. It will cover the current state of weather file availability and usage, projected energy use and peak demand differences, variation in available resiliency strategies, and challenges to switching to new formats.
This is going to be an fun meeting with an interesting presentation from Carrie and an opportunity to meet this year's committee chairs.
